Amoxil: What You Should Know

Amoxil (Amoxicillin)


What it does: Amoxicillin is a commonly used antibiotic.

Who is it for: People with pneumonia, tonsillitis, ear infections, bronchitis, gonorrhea or those with infections of the nose, throat or skin, or other conditions.

Benefits: It can treat a wide variety of bacterial infections.

Common side effects: Upset stomach, vomiting, diarrhea. Call your doctor if you experience dark urine, severe skin rash, hives, seizures, yellowing of the skin or eyes, unusual bleeding or bruising, excessive tiredness, persistent sore throat or fever, or abdominal pain or cramping.

Interactions: Tell your doctor if you're allergic to amoxicillin, penicillin, cephalosporins, or any other medications, or if you're pregnant, planning to become pregnant or breastfeeding. Also, let your doctor know if you're taking any other medications, vitamins and herbal supplements.
